ROSE HALL TOWN, CORENTYNE – Scores of Berbicians flocked the Area ‘H’ Ground, Rose Hall Town on the Corentyne on Sunday to get a glimpse of the Guyana Defence Force paratroopers in action.Eight paratroopers staged an airborne display and this was followed by the Skyvan making several low passes much to the delight of the crowd.The show, which was set for 16:00 hours, had to be delayed due to bad weather.Parachute Maintenance Officer and Chief of Ground Staff, Glenford Alfred, explained that cloud coverage and rain are dangerous for jumping. After circling a few times, the Sky van was forced to land a few miles away at Albion. The ground crew quickly made a few changes to the programme and just about 17:30 hours, the aircraft returned despite the low cloud ceiling and dazzled Berbicians.The eight daring men were expected to carry out freefall jumps from an altitude of 7,000 feet and showcase several breath-taking stunts before landing at the venue. After the exit, the paratroopers were supposed to glide in the air for a 3,000 feet free fall. However, this was not to be and they jumped from an altitude of approximately 2,500 feet.The Sky van was flown by Air Marshal Azeez Nuzamadeen and Captain Paul Dalgetty.Many of the spectators were witnessing such a sight for the first time and screamed as the paratroopers glided to the ground.In the first pass, four paratroopers – Major Lloyd Souvenir, Captain Michael Shaoud,Wholesale Jerseys Free Shipping, Captain Sheldon Howell and Captain Leslie Ramlall and two blank parachutes exited. Only Captain Michael Shaoud made his landing in the vicinity of the marker.
